"How To Get Along In Mhirdrun"
By Phiona Mercy.
The rules of Mhirdrun are written vaguely, intentionally. Mhirdrun's admin and game masters aren't out to ban anyone -- they're there to get people to think. There's no full-time police for the sim, and most of the admins would prefer to spend their time role-playing. Everyone playing in Mhirdrun is (or should be!) an adult. They're expected not to need baby-sitters; so? To help people understand our interpretation of the rules, we've put together a nice little list of best practices that will help you get along with other players in Mhirdrun. This is a work in progress - and will never be completed. ;-P
While this stuff is presented as a tongue-in-cheek ode to The Evil Overlord List -- most of this still *will* happen to you in RP scenarios at some point on Mhirdrun!
List #1:
-
I will thank other players (especially my character's enemies!) for the RP at the end of a scene!
-
I will assume all capture, sex, torture or scenes involving sexual assault will want to Fade-To-Black until proven otherwise!
- Fade to black on a first date is likely. I will make sure my schedules align; make sure they don't fuck off as soon as their jollies get rocked. -
I will not OOCly get into people's shit because I see them having sex with someone else.
- Especially if they're doing it with a different character. -
If I have to go soon, politely tell other players BEFORE the scene turns intense, not WHILE people are trying to beat mycharacter up or throw me in jail.
-
When the Sheriff and his posse knock on my front door: It's already mid-scene. It's bad form for me to log out suddenly.
-
If I have to go mid or right before a fight? I will give narrative control of my character to theirs. I don't just assume I escape automatically. I acknowledge people spend time as well as social and diplomatic collateral to get a good posse together.
-
If someone logs on you because of an IRL emergency; I will be responsible and fair with narrative control and send them a fair notecard about what the next step is for their character when they come back to RP.
-
I will play my half-orc or elf while my human is locked up! Storylines should be allowed to play out logically.
-
If someone who is not of my preferred gender hits on my character, my character can freak out, or panic or be polite IC -- but OOCly I am still required to be respectful of another role-player.
