FOOD

Seasonal Menu (Summer)

Ice Cream: A single taste and you will hold winter on your tongue. A dish for the ages, the secret is safe with the chef. Available in very limited quantities, first come first serve. 5 silver a bowl. Ask for the flavor of the day, if any is left. Listen for the shout ot the Sword and Board door and try to get to the counter first.

Shaved Ice and Fruit: Pureed, fresh berries atop a bed of the purest ice from the crag, layered with a fine glaze of honey. Not as costly as the ice cream but as satisfying. Sold on a first come first serve basis. 1 silver a bowl.

Rose and Strawberry Meringues: Made with fresh strawberries, eggs, sugared roses and cream these light and fluffy slices of heaven are a delicate layering of spring's flavors. Available only as long as the berries are ripe. Get yours before they're all sold off. 1 silver a dozen.

Roast Mutton and Potatoes: The hardy potato is cooked with a bit of wine, butter, and rosemary. The mutton has been marinaded in rosemary, wine, with a hint of sage and salt. Its cooked on a spit until the meat parts from the bone. Served with a side of fresh carrots. 3 pennies a plate.

Raspberry Tart: Available as long as the berries last these berries are served with a glaze of honey over a base of cream that rests atop a thin layer of short bread. Soft and fluffy but decadent. 4 pennies a slice.

Asparagus and Spinach Soup: More hearty fare that comes to the table only during spring, a bit of cream, finely chopped asparagus and spinach are cooked in a light chicken stock. The soup is cooked until it is free of lumps. Served cool. 1 penny a bowl.

Sylvanius' Pie: A rumored favorite of a certain god of the wilds this spring treat has the taste of the wild without the effort of foraging yourself. Asparagus, bacon, eggs, goat's cheese, cream, and salt are combined into a light, fluffy pie. The bacon is thin cut and whipped right into the eggs, allowing each bite to be a surprise. 2 pennies a plate

Meals
Bread and Cheese: Thin slices of dark wheat bread served with slices of fine white cheese from Mhidrun cows. 1 penny.
Plenty Eggs: These Plenty eggs are not just stuffed with cheese but a cheese blended with fragrant herbs, such as rosemary, creating a rich, and decadent bite. 2 pennies an egg.
Pottage: A hefty stew meant to stick to your ribs this is a meal fit for those who forswear eating meat and those who have endless appetites. Served with a slice of course but rich dark wheat bread, this pottage is made with herbs, nuts, carrots, turnips, garlic, cabbage, and leeks. Earthy and warm, its a year round treat. 2 pennies per bowl.
Venison Stew: This stew is slow cooked for hours to meld the tastes of tender venison, rashers of bacon, carrots, peas, salt, thyme, peas, garlic and onions into a rich and savory dish. Served in a crusty roll that retains enough of its soft inside to satisfy any remaining hunger this is a meal fit for a warrior. 3 pennies per bowl.
Cream of Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese: A simple dish that has sat on the tables of kings and peasants the fresh fruit of the tomato vines has been transformed into a silken delicacy. A touch of garlic, basil and a hint of white wine marry with the cream to satiate your hunger. The crisp crunch of wheat bread that has been toasted and melted Mhidrun sharp cheese  combines for the perfect meal. 6 pennies for two sandwhiches and a bowl of soup.
Blaundesore: Wine, almonds, roast chicken, rice, a touch of pepper, ginger and honey combine in a dish that has a bit of a crunch, hints of sweetness and a delicate savoriness that dance across the tongue. Eaten with a spoon this is a favorite for many. Served with a light bread to sop up any leavings. 5 pennies.
Beef and Bacon Pie: These single sere pies come with a light, flakey crust, the delicious crunch of bacon, tender chunks of beef, contrasted with a hint of raisins. Sweet and tart the added spices in the sauce cut through the savory and sweet to meld them on your tongue in a memorable way. 4 pennies per pie.
Honey Chicken Turnovers: A rich, golden brown and buttery crust filled with shredded chicken that was basted in a honey sauce and baked, butter, apple, currants and golden raisins, with salt and pepper that satiates and leaves one wanting more all in one small dish. 5 pennies per turnover.
Maiden's Salad: A salad fit for the freshest of maidens, made to honor this face of the seven. It is made with parsley, sage, green garlic, scallions, lettuce, leeks, spinach, borage, mints, porettes, fenneland graden cress, rosemary and purslane. These rich greens are then seeded throughout with colorful violets and primroses that have been dipped in honey and sugar. These candied flowers create a decadent and beautiful dish, offset with the vinegar and oil which makes them shine. Sweet and tart it is a salad fit for a King. 3 pennies a dish.
Tsuppe Amiscus: This staple of Bereli cuisine is presented in a thick bread bowl. It is a blend of rich cream, delicate potatoes, bacon, garlic, spicy sausage, and kale all cooked down into a divine soup that satiates as much as it becomes a thing to crave. 4 pennies per dish.
Elderflower Chicken, Salad, and Rolls: Chicken poached in salted water until it is tender is taken and skinned then bathed in almond milk then cut into bites before being served with an almond, salt and elderlfower sauce. The salad consists of romaine leaves and carrots tossed in oil and vinegar. Served along side rolls. 7 pennies per dish.
Roast Chicken: The chicken is roasted before being glazed with honey, apple vinegar, and rosewater. It is served along with a cabbage salad and a roll. 5 pennies.
Drepe: Game hen marinated in savory almond milk, seasoned with onions, salt, and pellydor (spicy). This is served along side a simple salad made of romaine leaves and carrots with a honey sauce, served along side rolls baked fresh daily. 5 Pennies.
Leek Soup: Mushrooms, rosemary, ginger, pepper, broth and salt are combined in a pot for a light dish with a hint of meat without the cost for those who can't quite afford the menu but want something a bit different. Carrots add a flash of color and fresh bay leaves add just a bit of extra fun. 1 penny a bowl.
Scappi's Fried Squash: Amiscian dishes are never short on taste, and these crisp yet soft squash bites will hit the spot without breaking the bank. Rolled in seasoned flour, before being dropped into hot fat. This leaves a nice crunch with a hint of fennel pollen, garlic and the satisfaction of salt to fulfill you with each bite. 3 pennies for four bites. There are optional dipping sauces for an added penny. Honey Mustard and Spicy Mustard.
Conneys in Gravey: Fresh rabbit marinaded in almond milk and broth with a spice mixture, then roasted in a pot until the meat was tender. Served a top a bed of fresh spinach with sprinkle of spices on top. 7 pennies.
Salmon Pie: The flakey, buttery crust contains a savory delight. The Salmon has been filetted, boned and skinned then nestled in the folds of dough before being rubbed down with parsley, sage, ginger, salt, pepper and given a hint of anise. 6 pennies per serving.
Glass City Tart: A favorite in Aer Arand amid both elves and men is the Glass city tart. With cooked onions, tart currants, parsley, sage, hysspos, a soft grated Aer Arand cheese all whipped with in onions and a touch of saffron added, you can taste the glory of the distant empire. 1 silver per tart.
Eggs in Moonlight: These eggs are poached with rose water and sugar and kept entirely white, when you cut into them the yolk pours uot like the sun. Served on sweet toast. 3 pennies.
Wizard's Wands and Golden Spheres: Nuumalon, land of wizards, brings to you its finest dish. Fat pork sausages are cooked until golden brown and lain along side mashed radishes that have a hint of thyme and sage, cooked in the fat of the sausage. This is then brightened with baked apples glazed in honey. Eat like a wizard, it might just be magical. 3 pennies a plate.
Pepper-Crusted Chicken: Slow roasted chicken, basted in salt and pepper, marinaded in a tart vinegar, then cooked until the meat falls off of the bone. This is served with mashed turnips with butter and salt, and dark wheat bread. 2 pennies a plate.

Desserts
Zefir: An airy snack that's as light as an avariel from Aer Arand, said to be a favorite of a certain emperor, Zefir are made of whipped fruit and sugar then shaped into the form of seashells. They come in apple, blueberry, pomegranate, and currant berry. 5 pennies for six. (OOC Note: These are marshmallows but fruitier)
Pastila: Supposed by many to be Aer Arand's oldest known recipe Pastila is a dish that is made en mass in the fall, when the apples are ripe and savored year round. The recipe varies by family but consists of apples, eggs, Honey,and spices. Often it has fruit added. The taste is rich, tart and sweet while being entirely unforgettable. The Pastila is served by the slice like a cake. There are three flavors available: Traditional, Black Currant, and Raspberry. 3 pennies per slice or 1 Silver for the entire Pastila.
Spiced Cheesecake: An Amiscus treat this classic dessert is made with cheese, eggs, currants, sugar, ginger, and other components to create a rich, decadent treat. 1 Silver a slice.

Take Home
Spiced White Bread: Sold by the loaf this is a high end bread for the discerning customer. Made with the best flour that can be bought, let to rise so it is light and delicate, this is a spicy but sweet bread that isn't so over powering it will overwhelm the meal it is served with. 1 silver per loaf
Honey Crysps: An original treat created right here in Mhidrun, these bite sized fritters are crunchy, sweet and ultimately satisfying. Made with flour and eggs they come out of the pan golden brown, and while they taste of honey they are no longer sticky. Served in a small bag or a bowl 2 pennies a serving.
Hwit Moos: A dish originally created by the Dwarves in the Crag, this pudding is soft, sweet, and spicy. It has eggs, milk, bread and plenty of texture. Ask for added raisins and dried berries if you want an added kick. It is served either dry or in a bowl with milk. 2 pennies a serving.
Gwathian Figs: Although the figs are grown elsewhere it is the presentation that is Gwathian. The dried figs are prepared with white wine, ginger, cinnamon and then cooked before they are served. Best eaten with wine. 3 pennies for five.
Snow: That's right. Snow. From the Crag. While not truly the Crag's icy snow this is a dish inspired by it. Baked apples with cinnamon are nestled under whipped eggs, honey and cream that has been baked just long enough to create peaks. Get your bowl of snow year round for 2 pennies a bowl.
Elderflower Fritelles: Beautiful flowers turned into a tasty treat. The flowers are battered with a light, sweet mix and fried. Served with dipping cream. 2 pennies a bow.
Pies: Buttery crust that is light and disappears on the tongue, a dense but smooth filling made with the finest fruit. Top this with a bit of snow and you've ecstasy. Sold in Cherry, Apple, Blueberry, Black Currant, Pecan, and Strawberry. 3 Pennies a slice, 1 Silver for the whole pie.
Handpies: A meal to go these hand pies are made with potatoes, carrots, or fish depending on availability. A bit of cheese added into the crust and inside and you've a delicious but filling dish. Meats: Fish, Venison, Pork, Chicken, and Beef 3 pennies a pie.
Fruit filled Donuts: Each donut is chewy and soft, rolled in sugar and cinnamon. These deep fried confections have a hint of nutmeg in the batter as well. The fillings are made of fruit preserves that have been whipped with butter and cream. The donuts come in: Black Currant, Cherry, Apple, and Lemon. 5 pennies a donut or 2 silver for six.
Chocolate Dusted Cherries: A treat for the more noble clientelle of the Sword and Board these bittersweet cherries are soaked in a sweet red wine, rolled in a heavy whipping cream, then coated in a layer of cocoa that has been crushed to a fine powder. These then have a glaze of honey layered over the top and an optional nut coating. The crunchy shell gives way to a soft bright flavor. 3 silver for a dozen. 5 pennies for three.

DRINKS


BEER
Aer Arand Kvass: A fizzy, sour drink made of fermented bread, Kvass is not a drink of delicate nobles but the hearty drink that fuels the masses in the Empire of Aer Arand. 2 pennis for a mug, 5 pennies for a bottle. (contains four servings)
Mhirdrun Pale Ale: A mild pale ale brewed from the wheat of the farms of Mhirdrun and containing hints of apple. 2 pennies; Spiced, 4 pennies.
Svartjjónfólk Ale: A hearty dark ale brewed by the nearby Svartjjónfólk, it is made of wheat and rye, and leaves a strong, bitter aftertaste. 3 pennies; Spiced, 5 pennies
Grimgaud Stout: A heavy, very dark stout made by the dwarves of nearby Grimgaud. The recipe remains a secret. While it is not lethal, as legends claim, it is much more alcoholic than regular brews. 5 pennies; Spiced, 7 pennies.
Blackwood Lager: Despite its name, this amber lager is fairly mild, with a light, refreshing taste that's sure to restore energy after a long day. 6 pennies; Spiced, 8 pennies.

CIDER
Mhirdrun Sweet: The farmers of Mhirdrun grow a particular type of refreshing red apple perfect for making a very balanced cider, kept cool in the basement of the Sword and Board. 3 pennies; Spiced, 5 pennies.
Mhirdrun Green: In the orchards near the crag, a tart green apple thrives in the cold autumn, producing a sour but tasty cider, sweetened with a touch of honey. 3 pennies; Spiced, 5 pennies
Sylvan Gold: A popular recipe in Aer Arnad, it's said that the Sylvan Elves of the Empire grow very sweet yellow apples that produce a syrupy, sticky cider that's said to make one feel ten years younger. 7 pennies; Spiced, 9 pennies.

MEAD
Tyr's Honey: Made by the Svartjjónfólk, the bees of the north produce only small amounts of honey each year, but what they do produce is said to be the nectar of the gods. This mead is flavored with a touch of wild blackberry and a bit of cream. 8 pennies.
Metheglin: A secret recipe made by a local in small batches, this drink is a very sweet, syrupy mead with touches of fruit and medicinal spices that bewitch the senses and restore vigor as effectively as any tonic. 1 Silver Coin

WINE
Vain's Red: A rich red wine imported from the elves of Vain's Cross, this dry wine perfectly compliments any heavy dish of beef or anything with thick gravy. It is finished with touches of cherry and redcurrant to give it a deeper color. 6 pennies.
Midland White: Imported from the elven territory of Midland, this sweet white wine contains traces of apple, pear, and walnut, evoking feelings of a sunlit forest. It pairs well with any sweet dish or light fish. 5 pennies.
Amicus White: The vineyards of Amicus have been ruled by the Nivols family for generations, and they have perfected several variations of wine, including this dry white wine which pairs well with fish and chicken dishes. It contains hints of lemon, adding a tart finish that one cannot find further north. 7 pennies.
Miarmathon Rose: A rare, shimmering pink wine imported from the elves of Aer Arnad, this sweet drink pairs well with any dessert one could ask for. Touches of raspberry and rose give it a floral scent that makes one feel as though they're walking through a spring meadow. 8 pennies.
Firebird's Blend: A delicate blend of pomegranates and raspberries that has been aged into a light, sweet wine, this rich drink is served for feasts, celebrations and has an undercurrent of raspberry. It has a bit of a kick and brings color to the cheeks. 1 silver.

RUM & SPIRITS
Pirate Brew: Rum is the main staple of pirates sailing in the Sea of Calingwai, and this particular dark variety is an authentic recipe, combining molasses, nutmeg, and cinnamon. 7 pennies.
Grog: A watered drink popular with sailors, it is made of pirate brew distilled with water for those who want a milder taste, less alcohol, or a cheaper price. 4 pennies.
Mhidrun Uisce: Made from Mhidrun wheat and barley, this strong drink leaves a harsh aftertaste, but nothing will get you drunk faster at a cheaper price. 5 pennies.
Merwig's Gin: An ancient recipe translated by the tavernkeep himself from instructions found in a ruin near Mhidrun, this spirit dates to the occupation of Merwig I, around 500 years ago. This recipe combines juniper berries with secret spices to create a powerful, potent drink that leaves an herbal aftertaste. 7 pennies.

RARE DRINKS
Dragon's Tail Ale: This Sulgatian treat is a rich red ale with a bolt and bright flavor that is balanced by a blend of caramel flavors and toasted malts.Served in a tankard that has a glass rim, to let the firey red show off, this drink is a beauty. 3 Silver.
Dragon's Breath Uisce: A luxury product made right here in Mhirdrun this is a spicy whisky. It goes down smooth, then runs hot as the heat of spice runs down your tongue. Are you tough enough to drink the fire? If so this ruddy drink is for you. 4 Silver a shot.
Phoenix Tears Rum: The toughest pirates whisper about this drink. Made with a secret process this rum has a shimmering embers visibly suspended in the liquid. An exceptional quality, it looks beautiful but the taste is equally amazing. Hints of brown sugar, ginger and magic float in this drink. 2 Silver a drink.
Unicorn Gin: A dark drink for a dark soul, this iridescent liquid is fruity and sweet, supposedly containing the essence of innocence. Hints of juniper dance along the tongue with whispers of forbidden fruit. Feel as pure as the day you were born, for just a moment. 3 Silver a drink.
Moonglow Pinnen: An Aer Arand treat this drink is said to flow in the glass city like water. Made from berries, peaches and something tart, the elves guard the secret to this shimmering, glittering drink closely. 7 Silver a drink.
Spring Sunshine Pinnen: A limited time drink, served only in the spring, this drink hails from Aer Arand. As with Moonglow, it is a secret drink of the Glass City, glittering like a fine jewel. It tastes of strawberries, cherries, and magic. 8 Silver a drink.
Summer Radiance: Made with peaches and other summer fruit, Summer Radiance has a cool flavor to it beneath the warm familiarity of the golden days. Brought to you from the Glass City, show your wealth as you drink this shimmering drink. Available only in summer. 8 Silver a drink.

NON-ALCHOHOLIC
Hot Chocolate: A rare treat for the most wealthy, this comes in two sizes to allow more affordability for the masses. The chocolate is sweet, thick and has an undercurrent of heat from chilis, cardammon and a hint of anise. The chocolate is blended slowly over an open flame, and kept just cool enough to avoid a skin on the top. 1 silver for a shot and 5 silver a mug.
Hot Tea: Sold by the pot each tea has the option of a small bit of honey or cream added for variations. The Mhidrunian blends are all herbal and soothing with chamomile, roasebuds, willowbark, peppermint, lemon balm, and valerian. 1 penny.
Winter Touched Mint Tea: A cold contrast for the summer months to the hot tea, this tea is made out of darker tasting herbs, mint, and honey. It is made by setting jars in the sun and allowing time and nature to create the perfect potency. Served cool. 1 penny a glass.
Aer Arand Milk Tea: A drink from the fringes of Aer Arand and the deep forests this milk tea is made with a bit of milk, green tea, a bit of salt, and butter. Its thick, rich, and great for the end of the day. 1 Penny a cup.
Water: Clean water. No cost.
